It takes GUTS to admit you need GROWTH

Last Thursday, MICROMINE Canada sponsored and hosted a Women in Mining networking event at our Vancouver office. The event was organized by MICROMINE, bringing together women (and a couple of men) from all facets of the mining industry. The purpose of the lunchtime event was to give attendees a chance to reconnect and make new friends, while also introducing them to the new partnership between MICROMINE Canada and Mining for Miracles.

MICROMINE Canada began a relationship with Mining for Miracles in early 2018, when Regional Manager, Amélie St-Onge was appointed as a committee member for the annual fundraising campaign benefitting the BC Children’s Hospital. This year’s initiative is called Gut4Health, which will contribute to the development of new treatments for the kids who visit BC Children’s Hospital each year with devastating health condition caused by an imbalance of gut bacteria. Mining for Miracles Co-Chair, Karla Mills and committee member, Lucy Piers, both from Teck Resources Limited, had the opportunity to speak to the networking attendees and raise awareness for Gut4Health. MICROMINE Canada provided Mining for Miracles with a space to sell tickets for their Diamond Draw, one of the key fundraising events for Mining for Miracles. The winner of the draw receives a diamond package, valued at $20,000, which includes a cushion cut 1.23 carat diamond (H colour with SI1 clarity), gold and designer setting, donated by C3 Alliance Corp., Teck and Costen Catbalue Goldsmiths + Design.

After the introductory speeches, MICROMINE Canada presented the attendees with an exercise to complete prior to leaving the event. In order for MICROMINE to learn and tailor future speaking sessions, each attendee was given a card and had to write down, anonymously, a particular area of their career they were seeking growth in. Once written, they were instructed to hang it up on the MICROMINE growth tree. Initially, some attendees found the task difficult, as it forced them to think intrinsically about their career goals, but by the end of the event everyone seemed thrilled about the concept. Aligned with our Gut4Health partnership, attendees were reminded that “it takes GUTS to admit you need GROWTH.”
